Covid Update

August 27, 2020

8/24/20

Dear Parents,

“The Lord is my light and my salvation; whom shall I fear? The Lord is the stronghold of my life; of whom shall I be afraid? Wait for the Lord; be strong, and let your heart take courage; wait for the Lord.” Psalm 27:1 & 14

A lot is going on in our world today but we can stand firm on the Rock that is Jesus Christ who has done everything we need to be saved and offers us hope and encouragement right now. So, as we make plans for the school year we carefully work out best practices to promote the health and safety of everyone during this pandemic. We do not make them out of fear but in the grateful knowledge that our God is with us.

In conjunction with the First Trinity Covid-19 Task Force, of which I am a member, we have created a Reopening Plan for our school to help teachers, students, and families remain safe and healthy while attending preschool. The Task Force meets regularly to set up and adjust protocols for our church and preschool based on Center for Disease Control (CDC), NYS Department of Health and NYS Education Department guidelines and recommendations. I have also brainstormed with our teachers, other preschool and childcare facility Directors as well as a Director of Operations for a Senior Care Facility who has successfully navigated throughout this pandemic.

Things will look a little different when you attend school this year but be assured, our commitment to and love for your children have not changed. Attached is the 6-page document explaining First Trinity Preschool’s Reopening Plans and a sample of the daily health screening (Appendix A.) You will be asked to sign the document, saying you read, understand and agree to abide by these guidelines. If, throughout the year some of the NYS restrictions are lifted or we find better ways to navigate through this we could make changes to our practices.

Here is a brief overview of some of the changes:

  • We will begin staggered start times with both 2’s classes meeting at the regular time, from 9 to 11:30 am, MWF 4s and both 3s classes meeting from 9:15 to 11:45 am and M-F 4s meeting from 9:30 am – 12 pm.
  • Only the two doors facing Niagara Falls Boulevard will be available to preschool families. A specific door is designated for each class to arrive and depart. Both 2’s classes enter and exit through door #6 and all the 3’s and 4’s classes enter through #5. Doors #1 and #7 located on the other side of the building are no longer available to us.
  • You can enter through your assigned door 5 minutes before start time, where you will go through a mandatory health screening, explained in Appendix A at the end of the attached document.
  • If possible, only one person enters the building with the student at drop-off and at the end of the day. Please adhere to social distancing throughout this process. Social distancing labels will be on the floor.
  • Classroom doors will be open so a swift good-bye is helpful to allow the other children to arrive promptly.
  • All staff will wear appropriate Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) throughout the day.
  • Students will wear masks at drop-off and pick-up but are not required to wear them throughout the day.
  • Self-contained cohorts (small groups of children of up to seven) will be established in the classrooms to limit potential exposure.

The complete document is attached below. The second attached document explains our protocol if schools are closed for an extended period of time.

Looking forward to seeing you and your children.

Blessings, Debbie Ferrante First Trinity Preschool Director
